Last Litter Program
ARCH is working with our community help prevent unplanned litters, to work towards a goal where every animal has a forever home and that we reduce the number of animals entering the pound system.
As part of the “ARCH Last Litter Program”, we offer free desexing surgery for the mother dog/cat accepted into the last programme and their entire litter is surrendered to ARCH. The adoption fees from the puppies or kittens surrendered to ARCH, help us cover some of the costs associated with this program (but please be aware that the costs of veterinary care usually outweigh the adoption fees).
In our Last Litter Program, you (the owner) will continue to care for mum and puppies or kittens until approximately 6-7 weeks of age and weaned. We will then place all the puppies or kittens into our foster program and the mother remains with you as the owner.
You may not give away or sell ANY puppies or kittens (even to family or friends). The point is to ensure that these puppies or kittens are desexed and do not add to the cycle of unwanted litters.
Approximately 2-4 weeks after the puppies or kittens have been placed in foster/adopted, ARCH will desex the mother dog/cat free of charge, at our nominated Vet. You will be provided with details and must book them in within 2-4 weeks of the puppies/kittens leaving. You are responsible for getting your dog/cat to the Vet.
The puppies or kittens will remain in foster care with ARCH to be vet worked and adopted out.
